Art

Art is an important part of the curriculum. No program for young children could succeed without emphasizing art. Through making, looking at, and talking about their own artwork and the art of others, children are:
  • Expressing their feelings and emotions in a safe way
  • Practicing fine muscle control and strengthening eye-hand motor coordination
  • Developing perceptual abilities by becoming aware of colors, shapes, forms, lines, and textures
  • Being given the opportunity to make choices and solve problems
  • Seeing that others have differing points of view and ways of expressing things than they do
  • Becoming aware of the idea that, through art, culture is transmitted
  • Experiencing success. Because art is open-ended and has no right or wrong answer, all children experience a measure of success
  • Making connections between the visual arts and other disciplines. Art integrates the curriculum. Content from every subject matter can find form through art

Music and Movement

The music program is an exciting and fun curriculum. It is a general, group-oriented musicality where the child can explore, create, compose and enjoy all elements of music. Through singing, movement, speaking, body sound rhythms, playing simple melody instruments and percussion instruments with music scores and improvisation, children learn the love and joys of music.

Children enjoy exploring rhythm, practicing their listening skills, making melodies with voice, learning the sounds of instruments and of different types of music. Children also experience and learn to appreciate music from different cultures.

Spanish

The Spanish program is an important part of our academic picture. Learning Spanish allows children to appreciate that there are people around the world who speak different languages.

We begin introducing Spanish to Primary students through songs and simple vocabulary such as numbers, colors, and days of the week. Children at this age are eager to learn and absorb the information quickly.

Yoga

We introduce students to easy and fun yoga poses in class. Yoga helps children to:
  • Develop body awareness
  • Improve balance and flexibility
  • Learn how to use their bodies in a healthy way
  • Manage stress through breathing, awareness, meditation and healthy movement
  • Build concentration
  • Increase their confidence and positive self-image
  • Have fun
